Students will be officially admitted to the Graduate School when they have completed their undergraduate requirements, which must be no later than their eighth semester.
The dual-degree program features a tuition scholarship ensuring that students pay for no more than 50 percent of the credits required for the master's portion of the program.
The scholarship is provided on completion of the bachelor's degree. It is calculated on the basis of the remaining credits needed for the master's degree and the additional payments the student made in order to accelerate study while matriculated for the bachelor's degree tuition for more than 18 points during a regular semester or for any summer courses. The tuition scholarship will remain available for twelve months after the completion of the undergraduate degree.
Once students matriculate in GSAS, they also become eligible for loan programs available only to graduate students. They do not submit an application for admission to the Graduate School. This is the main difference between the two courses. Though both are degrees offered in the arts stream, they are very different from one another.
BA is the first degree in the arts stream. Therefore, though it carries a good educational as well as a professional value, this degree is more of a general study of several subjects. In the second semester in their fifth year, students are also required to complete a special project or thesis, on a topic to be arrived at in close consultation with the M. This project or thesis, which can be an extension of the undergraduate senior thesis in European and Mediterranean Studies, is taken in conjunction with a course Graduate Research Seminar or Independent Study , and can count as four credits towards the required total.
