These factors combined make extended periods of on body hooping and fitness routines easier on our body and more accessible to all levels of experience! Laugh and play your way to your target heart rate!
The American Council on Exercise determined that hooping burns calories per hour! This number is based on basic waist hooping. Imagine how much of a work out you are getting when you start incorporating more of your body when you move your feet, do lunges or hoop in Goddess pose!
We find that our exercise hoop is an ideal weight for extended periods of on body hooping. It is heavy enough and can be ordered large enough for practiced hoopers to regularly hoop for extended periods of time.
This means you can hoop yourself to your target heart rate and stay there comfortably, creating a fun and low impact cardio work out! Before I answer that question, let me clear up a little misconception about what, exactly a Weighted Hoop is. The term "weighted" can be a bit confusing in terms of hoops. Weighted simply means that "the hoop is heavier than your typical Dollar Store or Walmart hoop.
A weighted hoop is a hoop that is often made from Polyethylene tubing and is meant for adults, rather than kids. In fact, one of those foam-padded 3-pound hoops can actually do more HARM than good! We build our exercise hoops to be a healthy 1 — 2 pounds, with the Exercise Style Fitness hoop averaging around 1. While heavy hoops are often easier to keep going, it is important to use caution around hoops that are weighted to be 3 or more pounds.
With the added force from the rotation around your spine, the amount of pressure that a very heavy hoop puts on your body can cause injury and discomfort. The tubing we use to make the exercise hoop is slightly thicker than the tubing we use for our Dance Fitness hoops. This adds weight to the hoop in an even distribution around the entire circle.
In the end, the thing that really makes learning to hoop around your waist easier is to try a larger diameter hoop. The larger the diameter, the slower your body has to move, and after our late teens and early twenties, most of our bodies want to move a little bit slower.
The larger diameter does adds a little more weight, but it also adds a little more time in each rotation for us to learn our movements. We love some good blues dancing and those slower tempos love a larger hoop. However, if you are hoping to learn a lot of off body hoop moves and have your hoop spend more time in your hand than on your body, your hands will probably appreciate our Dance Style Fitness Hoop a little bit more. We find this to be the most crowd-pleasing size for public hoop fitness classes.
It is hard to anticipate what each group of students will be like, so it is great to have a variety of diameters to fit different sized people. If you think you might have students who need an extra set of training wheels, you can special request a larger size tubing or diameter to be included in your bundle as well.

They are rugged, thick and weigh approximately 1. It's such a blast to pick out bright colors, twist up your clothing, dye it, and then untie it to see your beautiful creation. It's a fun activity for kids and adults alike! Want to make your own tie-dye clothing? It's really easy! Next, find some items you want to tie-dye; we'd recommend t-shirts, socks, and pillowcases! Before you start tie-dyeing, make sure you put down some plastic like a tarp or big plastic bags and wear clothing you're not too attached to.
Even better, just head outside. Once your tie-dyeing is done and you've washed and dried your clothing, have an at-home fashion show to show off your new creations. Even a good walk would wipe me out. The one activity I was able to do, and actually still feel graceful, fluid, and strong, was hula hooping.
It was something I could do that raised my heart rate, made me sweat, was low impact, and just plain old fun. Of course, traditional hula hooping around the waist was not so easy with my increased circumference but having practiced for many years using my whole body to move the hoop around, I was able to keep it going on my thighs, chest, arms, and below my belly.
I found that days that I had back pain or stiffness were quickly remedied from a good 20 minute hooping session. You can just feel the calmness and serenity!
We really hope this article inspired you to spin that hula hoop throughout your entire pregnancy and after! We know that the hoop lifestyle will help you raise wonderful children that will continue to make the world a more peaceful place. I would not use a 5 pound hoop around your waist during pregnancy.
I would stay around 1. But I need a dance hoop to keep up the workouts. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Pictured: Corrine Coomes.
