Why does firefox keep trying to update

This thread was archived. Please ask a new question if you need help. This is not a gripe about frequent updates, nor a case of being redirected to the "browser updated" page every time I start Firefox. The resulting page or pop-up shows that the browser is already up to date or displays the upgrade process. Starting with Firefox 93, the browser will block, at least temporarily, any download attempts over an insecure connection — one using the now-outdated HTTP protocol — even if those downloads are requested from a page secured with HTTPS.

Downloads are often transmitted from different servers or Internet locations than the page where they're listed. When Firefox recognizes an insecure download starting, it will pause the data transmission and put a message on the screen to alert the user, who can continue the download or delete the file, partial though it might be.

Firefox is playing catch-up here, as Google's Chrome has had similar protections in place since early , when the browser began automatically blocking the most dangerous file types attempting to download over insecure connections.

That blocking was staged over several Chrome versions, but was finalized this year. And unlike Firefox's new feature, Chrome's does not allow a user the option to continue such downloads, a safer, if less convenient, approach. Firefox 93 also features an enhanced SmartBlock , the tracker-blocking-page-fixing technology that debuted in March with Firefox Pegged as SmartBlock 3.

Because SmartBlock replaces page components that have been identified as trackers with "local, privacy-preserving alternatives" so that the page continues to function — page breakage is the most common side effect of blocking trackers — the more potential or actual blockers it supports, the less likelihood that the page won't load or operate correctly. Ungreat Guest. Posted Aug Tue 1st am Hi, i don't know if anybody else has had this problem but every couple of hours firefox says it has dowloaded an update. The problem is i've already downloaded and installed this update i'm using 1. If i try updating again it fails, and then an install update pops up a couple hours later. If this is a simple problem, sorry to take up space on the forum just point me towards the solution.

Delete the updates folder and the files active-update. This should solve the problem. If it still freezes, move on to the next fix. An incompatible or outdated extension may freeze Firefox.

So to get rid of freezes, you should disable them manually. Then select Add-ons. Option 2 — Automatically Recommended — This is the quickest and easiest option. To get them, you need to go to the official websites, find the correct drivers, and download them manually.

Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks:. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.

Or click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a day money-back guarantee.

If your Firefox freezes periodically, it may be caused by a corrupted places database. Find Profile Folder and click Open Folder next to it. Scroll down and find the file places.

Right-click on it and select Rename to rename it to places.
